Frequently asked questions
Everything about numbers, payments, messaging, and calling.
Are there any free numbers or a free trial?
No. Every SM Text number is paid. You need prepaid credit before you can rent a number — the smallest commitment is one month of a local number plus its one-time setup fee.
Which countries can I get numbers in?
SM Text sells US numbers only. Local numbers in most US area codes and US toll-free (800/888) numbers are available.
How do I pay?
With cryptocurrency only — BTC, ETH, USDT, or USDC. You top up a prepaid balance, and every charge (setup, rental, SMS, minutes) is drawn from that balance. Cards and PayPal are not supported.
When does my credit appear after paying?
After the network confirmations required for your asset (2 for BTC, 12 for ETH/USDT/USDC in most cases). The payment page tracks confirmation progress live, and you get a notification the moment credit lands.
Can I make and receive calls without a mobile app?
Yes. Calling runs entirely in your browser using WebRTC — dial pad, incoming-call screen with answer/reject, mute, and a live call timer. It works on desktop, tablet, and mobile browsers.
Does each number have its own inbox?
Yes. Every number is a separate SMS identity. The messenger lets you switch inboxes so conversations never mix between numbers.
What happens if I run out of balance?
Outbound actions stop safely: you can't send SMS, place calls, or renew numbers until you top up again. Inbound messages keep arriving and are stored, and nothing is ever charged beyond your prepaid balance — you can never go into debt.
What happens when my number renews?
Numbers renew monthly from your prepaid balance. If auto-renew is on we charge the monthly rental on the renewal date; if it's off or the balance is short, the number expires and is released after a grace period.
Can I use a number for verification codes (banks, WhatsApp, Telegram)?
SM Text numbers are intended for business and personal messaging. We can't guarantee third-party services will accept virtual numbers, and we don't support illegal use of any kind.
Is SM Text available on Android or iOS?
No, and it doesn't need to be. The full product — messaging, calling, billing — runs in the browser, on any device.
